Choosing a campground starts with the trip you want to take. A couple traveling in an RV, a family with young children and a group hoping to return all season may need different things from the same property. Before comparing pictures or prices, write down your dates, camping equipment and the activities that matter most to your group.
Holiday Acres is a family-owned campground at 7050 Epworth Rd in Garden Prairie, Illinois, along the Kishwaukee River. If you are considering a Northern Illinois getaway between Chicago and Rockford, use the questions below to decide whether our camping options fit your plans.
Start with your camping equipment
For an RV trip, have your RV type and length ready before searching for a site. Holiday Acres RV sites offer 30- or 50-amp electricity and water. Check the details of the available site rather than assuming every space has the same layout or services. Waste disposal is available at the campground, but that does not mean a sewer hookup is included at each site.
For tent or dry camping, contact the office before traveling to confirm a suitable site for your setup. If you are considering a cabin or rental, ask about the specific option available for your dates. Our overnight RV page and tent and dry-camping page explain the next steps.
Choose between a short visit and a seasonal stay
Overnight camping works well when you want to choose individual dates and make a few separate trips. Seasonal camping may suit you if you expect to return regularly and want a familiar home base. Compare the total commitment, not just a starting price.
Before choosing a seasonal site, ask which utilities and services are included, which charges are additional, and what the current agreement requires. The published 2026 season and price are dated information, not a quote for a future season. See seasonal camping and call 815-547-7846 for current availability.
Match the amenities to your group
Think about the time between meals, setup and outings. Holiday Acres has a swimming pool, volleyball, basketball and Ga-Ga ball. Scheduled activities have included crafts, hayrides and holiday celebrations. Miles Bar n Grill, the convenience store and laundry facilities can also help with the practical side of a visit.
Check the activities and amenities page and ask the office about current hours and the schedule for your stay. A photograph of a past activity shows campground life; it does not guarantee the same event will run on your dates.
Understand the river setting
The Kishwaukee River is part of the campground setting. Bank fishing is allowed, and permitted boats include kayaks, paddle boats, row boats and electric-powered boats. River swimming and gas motors are not allowed. Check conditions and access with the office before heading out, and do not assume equipment rental is included or available.
Compare the full booking terms
Look beyond the nightly price. At Holiday Acres, Friday arrivals require two nights and holiday weekends require three. Campsite check-in is 2:00 p.m. and check-out is 11:00 a.m. Visitor fees, the gate-pass deposit and cancellation terms also belong in your planning.
Read the campground guidelines before reserving. If friends plan to visit, tell them to register at the office before entering. If you are bringing a pet or private golf cart, review those rules before packing.
Plan the arrival before you leave
Use the campground map to become familiar with the layout. Save your reservation details and the office phone number, then enter your dates and RV details in the booking system to see available sites. Contact the office if you have questions about fit or arrival timing. Do not move to a different campsite without checking first.
